The Improver Ported Pelham
Designed specifically for:
- The horse that needs their head slightly elevated and nose to come in
- The soft horse that bumps the bit downwards when asking to collect up. Also described as snatching the bit or diving into the bit.
- The horse that doesn't enjoy pressure on their tongue
The port and swivel combination work very well with any horse that doesn't enjoy tongue pressure.
Can be used with curb-chains, however, if a horse is very soft they can often remain in this bit without a curb.
When training and setting up a horse that has not had a curb bridle on it before, we recommend giving the horse the opportunity to accept this Ported Pelham (and all curb bits) to get a good understanding over 4 to 6 weeks before much pressure is put on the horse. We advise enjoying the bit without a curb-chain, from there move to a webbing or leather curb strap and finally a nice flat sitting wide curb.
We have had excellent results on our Ainsley Ponies when following this method.
