When you watch a horse play well, it is worth remembering how many people are standing behind that performance, and how many of them did something last week that nobody noticed.

The groom who mentioned the horse was slightly off its feed. The farrier who changed something small. The physio or vet who came before there was a problem. The person who spent an extra ten minutes checking a horse on a cold night when nobody would have known either way.

None of them will be thanked in the presentation. All of them are part of the reason.

That is what we mean when we say horsemanship is a team sport. It just doesn't look like one from the sidelines.
